BFRB Therapy in Houston
Evidence-based BFRB treatment for lasting relief from skin picking disorder, hair pulling disorder, nail biting disorder, and more
"The urge to pick or pull is so strong; I just can't help it."
You’ve been hiding something for a while… but you’re ready to figure out how to break the habit of biting your nails, picking at scabs or your skin, or secretly pulling out your hair.
Skin picking disorder and hair pulling disorder can be overwhelming. You might be avoiding social situations because you're embarrassed by the marks on your skin, your missing eyebrows, or the bald patches on your head.
Or maybe you're constantly late to work because you can't stop staring in the mirror, searching for that "just right" hair to pull.
The shame can be overwhelming. You've tried everything to break this habit — but nothing seems to work.
You feel hopeless. Will you be stuck endlessly doing this forever?

The isolation of dealing with these behaviors alone can make you feel like you're the only one in the world who can't just "stop."
But here's the truth: You're not crazy, you're not alone, and you're not weak. From hair pulling (trichotillomania) to skin picking fingers (dermatillomania) to cheek biting, millions of people struggle with these behaviors every day. They are called Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs).
And with the right help, it is possible to regain control. You can learn to redirect these urges, heal your body, and find relief from the cycle.

Questions about anxiety treatment in Houston?
What is the best treatment for BRFB?
The most effective Body Focused Repetitive Behavior treatment typically involves a combination of evidence-based approaches:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This helps you identify triggers, change thought patterns, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
- Habit Reversal Training (HRT): A key component of BFRB treatment that involves awareness training, developing competing responses, and building motivation for change.
- Comprehensive Behavioral (ComB) Model: This integrates multiple therapeutic techniques to address the sensory, cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors that contribute to BFRBs.
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Helps you accept urges without acting on them and commit to behaviors aligned with your values.
The "best" treatment often involves a personalized combination of these approaches, tailored to your specific BFRB and needs. Our BFRB therapy is designed to address issues like biting nails anxiety and provide effective skin picking treatment.
What does BFRB therapy cost?
The cost of your sessions depends on your specific mental health therapist. Initial diagnostic evaluations with our licensed clinicians range from $215-$330 and follow up sessions range from $160-$255.
Advanced Doctoral Clinicians and Counseling Interns are able to provide services at a much reduced rate ($100-$130). All of our Doctoral Clinicians and Counseling Interns receive weekly supervision by fully licensed psychologists or counselors that are familiar with your goals and treatment plan. Working with a doctoral clinician or counseling intern is essentially like having two therapists for the price of one! We believe that finances should never get in the way of receiving excellent, evidence based care.
Do you take my insurance?
In order to make sure we offer the best, personalized care without restrictions, we are not on any insurance panels.
