But, it’s not specific to your child or family. This is where working with a parenting therapist can be life-changing. Just click the button below to get started ↓
Parenting brings up a lot. A parenting therapist can help.
Seeing an expert parenting counselor benefits you and your kids
The best thing you can do for your kids is to heal yourself
Have you ever wondered what would have happened if your parents had gone to therapy? Here’s how parenting counseling can help you avoid the same pitfalls as your parents:
Your first session
In your first session, a parenting therapist will evaluate what’s going on for you, and create a personalized, goal-oriented plan to help.
Evidence-based treatments
Come back for regular sessions with your therapist, either in Houston or therapy online. We’ll use methods based on evidence-based practices, like CBT, Parent Management Training, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, and SPACE, to help you be the best parent you can be while balancing your needs with your child’s.
Support & freedom!
As you use the techniques and strategies we show you, the pressures of being a parent begin to feel lighter. Your relationship and communication with your child will improve and you will find yourself overwhelmed less and connecting more.
Our goal is to get you out of therapy and into living freely — like you truly deserve!
The “perfect parent” doesn’t exist…
But you can be whole, healed, and present. And that’s the next best thing.
Therapy for parents is something we recommend for any mom or dad. Whether you’ve had your first baby and you’re feeling incredibly overwhelmed, or you’re struggling to parent difficult teenagers, or anything in between, parenting therapy can be a much-needed lifeline.

FAQ's
What questions do you have about working with a parenting therapist?
Let’s see if we can answer some of them for you right now!
What can I expect when working with a parenting counselor?
There’s no “one size fits all” in therapy, but generally, you can expect your parenting therapist to use evidence-based, solution-focused therapy approaches that have been shown to get results when dealing with big emotions and entrenched behaviors you want to change, such as…
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to understand how your thoughts affect your emotions and reaction to your child
- Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) to help teach you how to raise resilient children, despite anxiety or OCD
- Strategies from Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) that help increase compliance and strengthen the parent child relationship
- Parent Management Training (PMT) to help decrease oppositional behaviors
But you’ll also find that parental counseling sessions include…
- A safe, judgment-free space to talk openly about the struggles of parenting
- Support in setting healthy boundaries and managing family dynamics
- Tools to understand and regulate both your emotions and your child's
- Guidance on breaking unhelpful patterns while building strong family relationships
Does my family or child come with me to parental counseling?
It depends. In most of our parent therapy modalities, we work primarily with YOU, the parent, and we may not even need to meet your child for us to be successful in transforming your family.
If utilizing PCIT or PMT, we may work with both the parent and child, observe interactions, and teach new ways of communicating and setting boundaries.
What should I bring to my first parenting counseling session?
Mostly, just yourself and an open mind. But it can also be helpful to come prepared with any questions you have about the therapy process, a general idea of what you want to work on, and any previous therapy experiences you want to share.
What are your rates?
The cost of your sessions depends on your specific parenting counselor. Initial diagnostic evaluations with our licensed clinicians range from $215-$330 and follow up sessions range from $160-$255.
Advanced Doctoral Clinicians and Counseling Interns are able to provide services at a much reduced rate ($100-$130). All of our Doctoral Clinicians and Counseling Interns receive weekly supervision by fully licensed psychologists or counselors that are familiar with your goals and treatment plan. Working with a doctoral clinician or counseling intern is essentially like having two therapists for the price of one! We believe that finances should never get in the way of receiving excellent, evidence based care.
Do you take my insurance?
In order to make sure we offer the best, personalized care without restrictions, we are not on any insurance panels.
While we don’t work directly with any insurance panels, we are able to provide our clients with superbills so that you can apply to receive reimbursement directly from your insurance provider. Many of our clients receive up to 50%-80% reimbursement!
If you plan to seek reimbursement, please let us know prior to scheduling your initial appointment so that we can ensure you’re matched with a therapist whose specific license is eligible for insurance reimbursement.
