Evidence-based OCD treatment for lasting relief
"I can't stop these intrusive thoughts."
Your thoughts and behaviors might feel out of control, and you're terrified it's only going to get worse. You might be experiencing something like this:
- Counting, repeating phrases, praying, or trying to "cancel out" bad thoughts, leaving you exhausted and unable to focus on anything else
- Washing your hands over and over even if they're cracked or bleeding because you can't shake the feeling of contamination
- Avoiding doing things or being around people you love for fear that your intrusive thoughts about hurting others or yourself will actually come true.
- Getting into stressful disagreements with your loved ones because of your need for symmetry or the overwhelming need for things to feel "just right"
You might be losing sleep, straining relationships, or struggling at work or school because of your symptoms. And that's terrifying.

You might worry that you're "going crazy" or that there's something fundamentally wrong with you. The shame and isolation of dealing with these thoughts and behaviors alone can be overwhelming.
But here's the truth: You're not crazy, and you're not alone. What you're experiencing has a name — Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) — and it's more common than you might think.
With the right help, it is possible to regain control and find relief from these distressing symptoms.
Get matched with a therapist who specializes in treating OCD
We're here to listen and support you. But when OCD disrupts your life, you need more than just talk — you need effective, specialized treatment.
Even though OCD is much more common than people think, it can take on average 14 years to receive the correct diagnosis, and even longer to get the right kind of treatment. That’s because many mental health providers and physicians who are not OCD specialists just don’t have enough experience identifying or treating OCD.
That's why our OCD therapy in Houston prioritizes:
Matching you with a specialist
Our therapists have received advanced training in treating OCD and have over 25 years combined experience. We know what works.
Evidence-based treatments
Our OCD treatment approaches (Exposure and Response Prevention, ACT, and CBT) are studied and proven to work.
Compassion
We truly understand how OCD holds a sufferer and their family hostage and we approach each unique individual with the compassion necessary to build trust and effective change.

OCD symptoms that may feel familiar
Everyone’s OCD symptoms are different and complex — but these are just a few we see most often. If your OCD is manifesting differently, that’s okay and nothing to feel shame about.
- Health anxiety that goes beyond normal concern, leading to constant body checking, hyperawareness, or avoidance of medical information
- Checking behaviors (locks, appliances, etc.) that you can't stop, even when you "know" you've already checked
- Washing hands until they're raw, or using elaborate rituals to ensure safety
- Experiencing unwanted violent, sexual, or blasphemous thoughts that cause intense distress
- Relationship OCD, constantly doubting your feelings or your partner's feelings
- Worrying you've hit someone while driving, despite no evidence, leading to retracing routes.
- Religious or moral obsessions that cause guilt and anxiety.
- Relationship OCD, constantly doubting your feelings or your partner's feelings.
- Magical thinking or superstitious behaviors that you feel compelled to do
- And many, many more
FAQ's
Questions about OCD treatment in Houston?
What kind of therapist is best for OCD?
The best therapist for OCD is one who specializes in treating this condition and is trained in evidence-based approaches. Look for:
- Therapists with specific training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard treatment for OCD
- Practitioners experienced in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a focus on OCD
- Therapists who stay current with the latest OCD research and treatment methods
But it's not just about credentials. The right therapist should also make you feel understood and comfortable. At Houston Anxiety and Wellness Center, we match you with the therapist we think will be best fit for you, cutting down on time “shopping around” for an OCD therapist.
Can a person with OCD live a happy life?
Absolutely! While OCD can be challenging, many people with OCD lead fulfilling, happy lives. With proper treatment and management, your symptoms can significantly decrease, allowing for more peace of mind. You can learn to manage intrusive thoughts without letting them control your actions. And pursuing passions and goals becomes easier as OCD takes up less mental space.
Having OCD doesn't define you. Many of our clients report that working through OCD with a trained OCD therapist has made them more resilient and self-aware, and opened up possibilities for life they couldn’t have imagined before.
What triggers OCD?
OCD triggers can vary widely from person to person, but common ones include:
- Major life changes, work pressure, or relationship issues can exacerbate symptoms.
- Experiencing or witnessing traumatic events can sometimes trigger or worsen OCD.
- Some people notice OCD symptoms fluctuate with hormonal cycles.
- Personal health issues or global health crises can trigger contamination-related OCD.
- High-pressure situations demanding perfection may trigger symptoms.
- In some cases, children may begin experiencing OCD symptoms that appear “out of nowhere” due to a streptococcal (strep) infection (this is known as PANDAS)
It's important to note that OCD isn't caused by a single event or trigger. It's a complex interplay of genetic, neurological, behavioral, cognitive, and environmental factors. Identifying your personal triggers with a therapist can be a crucial part of managing your OCD effectively.
What does OCD therapy cost?
The cost of your sessions depends on your specific mental health therapist. Initial diagnostic evaluations with our licensed clinicians range from $215-$330 and follow up sessions range from $160-$255.
Advanced Doctoral Clinicians and Counseling Interns are able to provide services at a much reduced rate ($100-$130). All of our Doctoral Clinicians and Counseling Interns receive weekly supervision by fully licensed psychologists or counselors that are familiar with your goals and treatment plan. Working with a doctoral clinician or counseling intern is essentially like having two therapists for the price of one! We believe that finances should never get in the way of receiving excellent, evidence based care.
Do you take my insurance?
In order to make sure we offer the best, personalized care without restrictions, we are not on any insurance panels.
While we don’t work directly with any insurance panels, we are able to provide our clients with superbills so that you can apply to receive reimbursement directly from your insurance provider. Many of our clients receive up to 50%-80% reimbursement!
If you plan to seek reimbursement, please let us know prior to scheduling your initial appointment so that we can ensure you’re matched with a mental health therapist whose specific license is eligible for insurance reimbursement.
